Import, export, and account deletion

How to get your data out of HyperPrompt, bring prompts in from a JSON file, and permanently delete your account.

Written by the HyperPrompt Team · Last updated November 5, 2026

Full account export
Pro or Team. One JSON file.
Single-item download
All plans. Plain text (.txt) or Markdown (.md).
Prompt import
All plans. JSON file up to 5 MB, 100 prompts per import.
Where
Settings → Data tab, and the Prompts library

Export your account as JSON

  1. Open your account menu and choose Settings, then the Data tab.
  2. Next to Export (“Download as JSON”), select Export. On the Free plan this button reads Pro and is disabled.

Expected result: Account data exported. and a file named hyperprompt-export.json is downloaded. The same file is available from GET /api/account/export in the API.

What the file contains

The top level is { "exportedAt": "<ISO timestamp>", "account": { ... } }. Inside account:

Account export contents
KeyContents

promptsPrompts you authored, each with every saved version and its folder.
rules, skills, mcpsRules, skills (with their files), and MCP entries you authored.

promptHistoryEnhancement history entries.

promptComments, contentReportsComments you wrote and reports you filed.

API keys are not included.

Download a single item

In the Library, open an item’s actions menu and choose Download. Prompts download as .txt; rules, skills, and MCP entries download as .md. The file contains the item’s content only, without metadata or versions. The Editor’s Download enhanced content icon works the same way for the current output.

Import prompts from JSON

  1. Open Library (the Prompts Library). From Settings → Data, Open importer takes you to the same place.
  2. Select Import and choose a .json file.

Expected result: “Imported N prompts as private drafts. Refreshing...”, then the page reloads and the prompts appear with a Draft badge. Each one starts at version 1 with the note “Imported”.

Accepted file shapes

  • A JSON array of prompt objects.
  • An object with a prompts array (example below).
  • A HyperPrompt account export. Only account.prompts is read.
Minimal import file (example values)
{
  "prompts": [
    {
      "title": "Release notes writer",
      "content": "Summarize these changes for customers: {{changes}}",
      "description": "Optional, up to 1,000 characters",
      "category": "writing",
      "tags": ["release", "docs"]
    }
  ]
}
Prompt fields read during import
FieldRequiredLimit
titleYes1–200 characters
contentYes1–40,000 characters
descriptionNoUp to 1,000 characters
categoryNo (defaults to general)Up to 100 characters
tags, technologies, ides, models, useCases, variablesNoUp to 30 items each, 100 characters per item

Other fields, including version history, folders, workspace, visibility, and IDs, are ignored. Every imported prompt is private and a draft.

Portability limits

Importing restores prompt text and metadata only. Version history, folders, favorites, rules, skills, MCP entries, context, history, evaluations, and workspace membership are not imported. If an export has more than 100 prompts, split it into files of 100 or fewer.

Delete your account

  1. If you have a paid plan, cancel it first: Settings → Account → Manage opens the billing portal.
  2. If you own a workspace that has other members or prompts, transfer or delete it first (see Team workspaces).
  3. Optional: export your data (above).
  4. In Settings → Data, select Delete next to Delete Account (“Cannot be undone”).
  5. Type DELETE when prompted.

Expected result: you are signed out and returned to the home page. Your personal prompts, rules, skills, MCP entries, and enhancement history are deleted along with the account. Prompts you created inside a team workspace belong to that workspace and remain there.

Errors

  • “Cancel your paid subscription before deleting the account”.
  • “Delete or transfer owned workspaces before deleting your account”.

See the Privacy Policy for how HyperPrompt handles personal data.

Troubleshooting

  • “Data export requires Pro”: the account export needs Pro or Team. Single-item Download works on every plan.
  • “Import files must be 5 MB or smaller.”: split the file.
  • “No prompts were found in this JSON file.”: the file is not one of the accepted shapes, or the array is empty.
  • “Invalid request”: a prompt is missing title or content, a field is over its limit, or the file has more than 100 prompts. Nothing is imported when this happens.
  • “Too many imports; try again shortly”: the limit is 5 imports per minute.
  • A JSON parsing error message: the file is not valid JSON.
